Built by a solo founder, for the conversations that matter
ThreadRecap turns WhatsApp chat exports into recaps, voice transcriptions, and structured evidence reports. This page tells you who built it, why, and what that means for the way it works.
Why ThreadRecap exists
WhatsApp is where most decisions actually happen. Not in email. Not in meetings. In scrolling threads of voice notes and quick replies. Then weeks later you need to find the agreement, the deadline, the promise made before things went sideways. The chat is right there, but it is unreadable. Hours of voice messages. Thousands of texts. No way to search what was said.
ThreadRecap exists for that moment. For the freelancer trying to prove the scope was not open-ended. For the tenant building a paper trail before small claims court. For the project manager who needs a clean recap of a 90-minute group thread. The tool started as a chat summarizer and grew toward dispute documentation because that is the use paying customers keep asking us to invest in.
How it started
It started after a long conversation with a former boss. The advice was specific, generous, and almost entirely in long voice messages. Re-listening to all of it later, end to end, was not realistic. The tools out there for chat exports were either toys or marketing wrappers around generic LLMs. So I built the version I needed for myself.
What began as a personal fix turned into a simple product. It has steadily grown in capability and reach since, and shown real value for a wide audience. Direction comes from what paying customers ask for in support and from feature-usage telemetry, not from reading the conversations people upload.
Who is behind it
ThreadRecap is built and maintained by André Daniel, a solo founder. No investors. No marketing team. No off-shore support desk. Bug reports go to one inbox. Feature decisions are made by one person. The plus side: every product call is made with the user in mind, not a quarterly target.
More about the work, the writing, and other projects:
andredaniel.devWhat that means for you
A solo-built product means the person who wrote the code also reads your support emails. If something is broken, it gets fixed by the person who knows where the bug is, not routed across three teams. Roadmap requests from paying users move faster than they would in a company with a full product organization.
It also means honesty about scope. ThreadRecap does WhatsApp chat analysis, very well. It does not do video conferencing transcription, generic file summarization, or twelve other adjacent things. The narrow scope is a feature, not a limitation.
Principles
Privacy is built into the architecture, not promised on a page
Photos and videos are unzipped in your browser and never sent to our servers. Chat text is stored so analysis and AI follow-up chat can work, and you can delete any chat or analysis from your dashboard at any time. Voice note audio is uploaded only when you opt in to transcription, encrypted in transit.
No ads, no model training on your data, no third-party sharing
Revenue comes from credit purchases, full stop. Your conversations are not the product. Data is never sold, never shared with advertisers, and never used to train models.
Paying users come first
Roadmap priorities are set by what paying customers ask for. The free tier exists to let people try the tool without friction, not to harvest data for upsell campaigns.
Pricing is transparent
Pay per credit, no subscription, no auto-renewal traps, no expiring credits. Regional discounts are applied automatically based on country. The price you see is the price you pay.
Where we are
ThreadRecap launched at the end of January 2026 and is in active production with paying customers across over 10 countries. The current focus is dispute documentation: making chat-based evidence credible, well-structured, and easy to hand to a lawyer or mediator without rewriting it.
Near-term direction: better SEO for non-English markets, a WhatsApp bot to remove the upload step entirely, and tighter integration between voice transcription and structured reports.
