Yes. Your chat file is parsed entirely in your browser and the raw file is never uploaded to our servers. The text content and the audio of every voice message are sent for analysis. Your chat is stored on our servers so your analysis stays accessible, and you can delete anytime from your dashboard. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

Voice messages in your export are transcribed and included in the recap. Photos and videos never leave your device, but ThreadRecap logs who shared media and uses surrounding messages for context (e.g. "Mom shared a photo and said 'Look at this sunset!'"). From a video, only the audio track your browser extracts is sent for transcription; the video file and its pictures stay on your device.

Yes. The output is plain text you can copy and paste into another chat, email, or note. If you're signed in, you can also save it to your account and revisit it anytime.

Voice messages are fully supported. If your export includes media, ThreadRecap transcribes every voice message and merges it into the timeline. So grandma's 3-minute voice message becomes readable text in the recap.

Yes. You can choose which participants to focus on (we recommend 2–5). This is useful for large family groups where you want to see what specific people said — for example, just your siblings, or just the parents planning a trip.

ThreadRecap processes whatever is in your export file. WhatsApp lets you export recent chat history — typically the last few months. WhatsApp cannot export only part of a chat, so for a shorter recap (e.g. just this week), upload the export and choose that period in the preview.
