Yes. Your chat file is parsed entirely in your browser — the raw file is never uploaded to our servers. Only the text content (and voice note audio you choose to include) is sent for analysis. We don't store your chat. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Voice notes in your export are transcribed and included in the recap. Photos and videos never leave your device, but ThreadRecap logs who shared media and uses surrounding messages for context (e.g. "Mom shared a photo and said 'Look at this sunset!'").
Yes. The output is plain text you can copy and paste into another chat, email, or note. If you're signed in, you can also save it to your account and revisit it anytime.
Voice notes are fully supported. If your export includes media, ThreadRecap transcribes every voice note and merges it into the timeline. So grandma's 3-minute voice message becomes readable text in the recap.
Yes. You can choose which participants to focus on (we recommend 2–5). This is useful for large family groups where you want to see what specific people said — for example, just your siblings, or just the parents planning a trip.
ThreadRecap processes whatever is in your export file. WhatsApp lets you export recent chat history — typically the last few months. For a shorter recap (e.g. just this week), export only the range you need from WhatsApp before uploading.
