What Happens to Your Data
You export your chat from WhatsApp
You use WhatsApp's built-in export feature to create a .zip file on your device. ThreadRecap never accesses your WhatsApp account.
The file is unzipped in your browser
Your .zip file is opened and parsed entirely in your browser. Photos and videos are identified and immediately discarded — they never leave your device.
You preview and choose what to analyze
Before anything is sent, you see a full preview: message count, participants, date range. You can filter by date, select specific participants, and choose whether to include voice messages.
Only text and opted-in audio are sent
Text messages are sent encrypted (TLS) to our servers for AI analysis. Voice messages are only sent if you explicitly opt in to transcription. Photos and videos are never sent.
AI processes your data and returns results
Anthropic Claude analyzes your text. OpenAI Whisper transcribes voice messages. Neither provider retains your data after processing. Results are streamed directly back to you.
Your data is deleted automatically
After processing, your chat content and audio files are deleted from our servers. If you choose to save your results, only the generated analysis is stored — never the original chat content.
