OGG, OPUS, and why WhatsApp uses both names
They are not two different things, which is why one upload handles both.
- OGG is a container — a wrapper that holds audio. OPUS is the codec, the compression inside the wrapper. A WhatsApp voice message is usually OPUS audio in an OGG container, so the same file is correctly called both.
- Which extension you see depends on the phone and the export. Some exports write .ogg, others write .opus, and a few arrive as .m4a — the recording is the same either way.
- Whichever name your export used, the file is read the same way — and its real length is measured from the audio itself rather than guessed from the file size, so what you are quoted matches what you actually have.
